A BRIEF HISTORY
In Greek mythology, Taurus was linked to the story of Zeus transforming into a bull to win the heart of a mortal woman named Europa.
To win her heart, Zeus transformed himself into a magnificent white bull and approached Europa while she was gathering flowers. She was so taken by the bull’s beauty and gentleness that she climbed onto its back…but as soon as she did, Zeus took off, running across the seas and carrying her to the island of Crete.
There he revealed himself as the king of the gods and made Europa his queen. To commemorate this story, the gods placed Taurus in the sky as a reminder of Zeus’s love for Europa and his power as a shape-shifter.
